Mission statement

  1. Make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding the promotion, organisation and conduct of ANKC Ltd dog sports, including Herding Tests and Trials, Earthdog Tests and Trials, Sled Sports Events, Draft Tests and Lure Coursing events.

  2. Allocate and amend dates for Trials and Tests.

  3. Allocate and amend dates for training at the Complex.

  4. Monitor ANKC Ltd Tests and Trials to ensure they comply with ANKC Ltd Rules and Regulations.

  5. Consider reports submitted by Trial and Test Representatives, and refer incidents reported at Trials or Tests to the Secretary, Board of Directors or the relevant affiliate, as appropriate.

  6. Provide advice and guidance to affiliates on Trial and Test Regulations and other related matters.

  7. Organise the education and training of judges.

  8. Make submissions regarding rule changes as required.

    Draft Test Information

    Draft is a relatively new discipline in Australia but has long been established in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe. Draft Tests are conducted by breed clubs to preserve and demonstrate the inherent working abilities of traditional draft breeds.

    In Australia, it is hoped that traditional drafting breeds will embrace this discipline, as the exercises are designed to demonstrate skills developed through both natural instinct and training. Drafting is a true working test that showcases a dog's capability and partnership with its handler.

    Dogs that pull a cart must be physically strong, sound, well trained, adaptable and of good temperament. They are required to work confidently with their handler across a variety of terrains and situations that may be encountered during a Draft Test.

    Workshops and training days are open to anyone interested in participating in draft work with their dog. If you're unsure how to get started, come along to observe or have a go.
