What worldwide Dog organisations are doing for the health of pedigreed dogs.

Kennel Clubs both here and overseas have for many years assisted breeders in breeding healthier dogs. Now with even further advances in research and veterinary medicine, we are able to display here some of the work being done, which is of continuing assistance in the ongoing health of pedigreed dogs.

Australia: ANKC (Australian National Kennel Council)
has the Canine Research Foundation, which is a Public Charitable Trust with research conducted at Australian universities from funds generated via the levy on our purebred puppy registrations, fundraising functions, tax- deductible donations and bequests from the public. The CRF was founded by the Victorian Canine Association in 1992 and 70, research grants have been awarded for projects through to those commencing in 2008.
Summaries of more recent research projects are included on their site: http://www.ankc.org.au/home/inner.asp?pageid=117&mainid=72  - see the important Australian contributions on the world scene. Most projects to date have been successful, with results published in veterinary/scientific journals and web-sites available to veterinarians and the canine community internationally. We can all be justifiably proud of results.

The ANKC also has the National Code of Practice for Hereditary Diseases, which represents the commitment of all members from each state’s canine body, to breed only for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed. The Code of Practice can be viewed on http://www.ankc.org.au/home/inner.asp?pageID=91&mainID=2
