PRESIDENTS REPORT

Dear Members,

In my July report to members, I made mention of the problems facing not only this organisation, but also our breed clubs, as a result of the RAS changing the dates of their annual Easter Show.

I wish to report to members that in early July 2006, a delegation from the Board of Directors (Tom Couchman, Vicki Etherington, John Mulcahy) meet with members of the Dog Section Committee of the RAS. Far from being a confrontational meeting, the atmosphere that prevailed was one of understanding, conciliation and an agreement to work together to minimise as much as possible, the negative impact the changed dates may have on our affiliated clubs and members.

By the time you read this report, the RAS of NSW will have finalised the judging arrangements for the 2007 Royal. The co operative approach taken by both Dogs NSW and the RAS on this issue, will I believe, be reflected in the 2007 judging timetable and hopefully our clubs and membership who regularly show at the Royal will reap the benefits.

Whilst on the subject of "Royal", I have just finished writing a number of replies to members who were not happy that we had adopted the name "Dogs New South Wales", as the writers wanted us to retain the 'Royal' as part of our title.

I wish to strongly make the point, that the name of this organisation remains the Royal New South Wales Canine Council Ltd, however our trading name is "DOGS NSW", and this name will be used as a brand name on most of our products and services To accuse me of being a republican ratbag is, to say the least, just a little over the top, especially as in truth I am a flag waving Royalist, who collects royal memorabilia. But in saying that, I believe we must move with the times and change, or this organisation will not survive.

Another change which I hope will be positively received by members and supported, is the introduction of a 3rd Championship Show at this years Spring Fair. A number of Speciality Clubs conducting their own championship show on Thursday evening, which will in effect gives some breeds 8 challenges over the weekend.

I would at this time, like to acknowledge the retirement from active Obedience judging of Dulcie Goldstien, has requested to be placed on the reserve list. Dulcie was awarded a life membership of this organisation in 1989 and she has continued to be actively involved in our sport. Having previously been awarded the highest honour this organisation can give, I can pay Dulcie no higher tribute than to say "we love you" and thank you.

Keith Irwin
President
