PROTECTING KIDS FROM DOG ATTACKS
22 March 2006 - Goulburn Post
THE NSW government will develop an education campaign to help kids avoid dog attacks, Minister forLocal Government, Kerry Hickey, has said. Speaking at a Dogs in Today's Society seminar last week in Sydney, Mr Hickey said the campaign would focus on teaching children how to interact safely with"Education is the key to preventing dog bites. Children must learn how to approach dogs and understand their behaviour," Mr Hickey told the Royal NSW, Canine Council seminar. The campaign, expected to be rolled out to all NSW schools by the start of next year, was part of a range of practical State Government solutions to promote dog ownership.
Late last year, the State Government introduced tough new penalties to crack down on restricted breeds of dogs.
