LIVING SAFELY WITH DOGS

PRESCHOOL EDUCATION PROGRAM

As most members are aware the NSW State government has announced that it is to fund a school education program based on " Spot the Dog". This program is to commence in February 2007, and is fully funded by the State Government. The program is being conducted primarily by the following organisations that have joined forces, in this endeavour i.e.

The AVA, RSPCA (NSW), Delta Society and the Animal Welfare League of NSW.

The "Spot the Dog" program is designed for the 5 to 7 year age group and is to be delivered in schools, however with 47% of dog attacks including

2 horrific deaths in the last 7 months occurring in the 1 to 5  (preschool) age group, Dogs NSW has in conjunction with the Victorian Department of Primary Industry presented the "Living Safely with Dogs"

Pre School Education Program to the NSW Government.

This program has been very successful in Victoria where, VCA members and their dogs present this program in preschools and day care centres.

Dogs NSW have entered into an agreement in principal for the Living Safely with Dogs program to be administered/delivered in New South Wales by Dogs NSW and its members. Additional information will be placed on chat groups as it becomes available.

Over the next few weeks a concerted campaign will take place to convince the NSW Government to fund this program as a matter of urgency.
