It is not essential that puppies be microchipped before your Application for Litter Registration is submitted to Dogs NSW. It is however required under the Companion Animals Act that a puppy be microchipped before it is sold or, in the event the puppy is not being sold, it must be microchipped before it reaches the age of 12 weeks.
Once the puppies have been microchipped, you should notify us of the microchip number by using the application form available at so that the microchip number can be added to our database. There is no charge for this if you do not require a new registration certificate with the microchip number printed on it.
Alternatively, you should advise us of the microchip number at the time of transferring ownership of the pup, in which case, the microchip number will appear on the new Certificate of Registration Certificate that is forwarded to the new owner.
