DOGS NSW COMPLEX FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE RAISE FUNDS FOR VICTORIAN BUSHIRES
Australia’s Worst Natural Disaster
During the weekend of February 14/15, more than 4000 “firies” continued to fight Victoria’s bushfires. During the preceding weekend, fires destroyed 1800 homes and killed in excess of 200 people. Indeed, the words “Australia’s Worst Natural Disaster” seem not to adequately describe this horrific event in our history.
In Sydney, the weekend of February 14/15 saw the running of two All Breeds Championship Shows under the auspices of Dogs NSW Complex Fundraising Committee. The Complex Fundraising Committee exists to raise funds to improve the showgrounds at Erskine Park but in the light of the Victorian fires, it was agreed – and approved by the Board of Directors of Dogs NSW – to donate all monies raised from these two Shows to Dogs Victoria to disperse amongst those in need.
And “raise monies” we did !
An awesome result: $20,400 !
Because of the overwhelming generosity of exhibitors at the abovementioned Shows, the Committee is humbled to report the following:
- The on-site Auction raised $8,887
- Prize money donated back from in-group & in-show winning exhibitors totalled $2,555
- Independent donations including raffles and the proverbial “bucket” totalled almost $3,300
- Thanks to Dogs NSW waving all fees for these shows, the show profit was $5700
A fantastic team effort
So many put their hands up to help the committee achieve its goal. Where would we be without people, too numerous to mention, who were generous with their time – people such as Debbie and Brett Burrows who came each night just to help in whatever way possible. Thank you one and all.
Sensational sponsors
Again, where would we be without the unstinting generosity of not just the Committee’s major sponsor - Purina ProPlan – but also the following companies: Dog News Australia, Cabal Canine Candids, National Dog/Ring Leader, Bayer, Plush Puppy, Showaquipment, Petcetera, Frozen Puppies, That's Pets Palace, Melrose Health, Di-Vetelact, Genetic Technologies, Champet, Catonam & Animal House, Dyson and Top Dog Massage Therapy. These companies, together with many individuals, responded unhesitatingly to our request for donations. Pats on the back also to Robyn Foster, for a donation from the proceeds of the ProPlan Diary, and to the Non-Sporting, Samoyed & Boxer Clubs for their cash donations.
The hardworking Complex Fundraising Committee
Finally, my warm appreciation for a job well done to our Committee – Lynda Brandt, Garry Dryburgh, Marilyn Parker, Keith Robinson, Angela West and David Lacey.
